The premiere of the Tesla Semi truck tractor took place 9 years ago, in 2017. After this, the cars underwent test operation, and pre-production copies joined the fleets of large companies – PepsiCo, DHL, Walmart and US Foods. And now the American automaker has organized serial production of battery-powered trucks.
The series includes a modernized version of the Tesla Semi, which features improved aerodynamics, a different design of the nose cone and greater energy efficiency. It is reported that electricity consumption was reduced by 15% compared to the pre-production version.
The tractor is equipped with three electric motors with a total output of about 800 kW (about 1100 hp). The range is 500 miles (800 km), but the manufacturer deliberately does not disclose the capacity of the traction batteries.
The main feature of the cabin is the driver’s seat, installed in the middle. On both sides of the steering wheel there are widescreen screens on which images from external cameras are displayed.
“This thing has crazy power compared to diesel trucks. Essentially, it’s an elephant that moves like a cheetah,” Elon Musk described the Semi’s capabilities.
Previously it was reported that the electric truck will be able to accelerate to 96 km/h in 5 seconds, and with a full load exceeding 37 tons – in 20 seconds. That is, the dynamics correspond to passenger cars.
