Tesla quietly launched robotax in Texas, but so far with a man in the cabin

More than 10 cars – specially equipped Model Y – were launched on the streets of Texas Austin. The launch went without a pump: the fact is that there is a person in the passenger seat, and only a limited number of users who received an invitation can order such a taxi. According to TechCrunch, these are mainly loyal Tesla influensers.

Approximately a dozen unmanned Model Y runs in a zone limited about 80 square kilometers. Cars go on autopilot, but there is an operator in the cabin. He was put not on the driver’s, but on the passenger chair, so formally there are no driver. In addition to the operator, employees of the situational center remotely observe the work of Robotaxi.

The price is still fixed – 4.2 dollars or about 330 rubles per trip. You can order Robotaxi from six in the morning to midnight, seven days a week, but only in good weather. What will happen if a thunderstorm or rain finds a car during the execution of the order is not clear.

Musk said that Tesla will receive a new chapter only in the event of his death Tesla cannot even get rid of the “welcoming” Model Y Tesla began testing an unmanned taxi

According to the first users, the service works on the principle of other similar ones – for example, ALPHABET Waymo. You can order a trip through the Robotaxi application. When landing on the screen installed for the rear passengers, data will appear – the destination and the expected arrival time. Through the same screen, passengers can control the audio system.

Apparently, while Tesla avoids widespread publicity, since any taxi malfunctions can cause a lot of criticism. Now it is especially harmful to the company, the image of which is experiencing a crisis: fewer people consider Tesla a “top” auto -brand, and the attitude is changing to the worst in all key markets – both in the USA and in Europe and China.
