The Chinese successor to the Mazda6 will come to Europe with a different filling

If in the Middle Kingdom the five-door was called EZ-6, then in the European Union the name 6e will be used. Externally and in the interior, the car has not changed, but the technology has been adjusted: there are no plans to supply a hybrid version for export yet, and electric cars will receive more capacious traction batteries and will have a longer range. Alas, Mazda 6e prices will be announced closer to the second half of the year.

The Mazda EZ-6 made its world premiere last spring, went on sale last fall, and demand in China has been better than expected. In China, the “six” is available with batteries with a capacity of 56 or 69 kilowatt-hours. In Europe, other options are offered: the “base” is equipped with a 69-kilowatt-hour battery; a Long Range version with 80-kilowatt cells is optionally available.

The electric motor of the Mazda 6e is located at the rear and produces 258 hp as standard. and 320 Nm, but on the Long Range version it is derated to 245 hp. and 320 Nm. As a result, even according to the European WLTP cycle, the autonomy is solid: from 479 to 552 kilometers. There is a caveat: the base battery is lithium iron phosphate, supports 200-kilowatt charging, so it can be charged from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes. The optional lithium-ion battery does not support fast charging, so it will take 45 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

The success of Changan’s expansion into Europe through cooperation with Mazda will depend on prices. In China, the top-six costs 180 thousand yuan (24 thousand euros), so there is room for attractive prices. And in a year, the Mazda 6e will receive a right-hand drive version and reach the UK market.
