The Constitutional Court of Russia upheld new fines for traffic violations

We are talking about sanctions that operate from January 1, 2025. The judges did not find violations in the process of adoption, as well as in the content of the law on raising fines, which has grown one and a half times since the beginning of the year. Earlier, about a hundred deputies of the State Duma appealed to the court with a request to conduct an audit. Officials stated that there was no need to change the size of the sanctions.

Since the beginning of 2025, fines have increased in Russia for the main traffic violations about one and a half times. State Duma deputies considered that there were no reasons to increase fines and reduce the discount for their timely payment. Officials argued that over the past few years, the accident rate in the country has gradually declined. In this case, an increase in the cost of fines can lead to an increase in corruption.

Having examined the complaint of deputies, the Constitutional Court called the increase in fines agreed with the constitutional principles of proportionality and justice. The judge also decide that the decision to ensure the balance of the rights and obligations of road users. As a result, the court did not find violations in the procedure for adopting the law.

In mid -May, it became known that this year, traffic violators will replenish the budget of Russia by almost 53 billion rubles. A similar amount is associated with increasing the size of fines.
