The editor -in -chief of the popular car portal Maxim Cherkashin tested the novelty of AvtoVAZ – LADA ISKRA – and presented his conclusions, comparing it with Granta and Vesta models.
Visually, ISKRA stands out with a modern, restrained design with branded X-shaped graphics in front, embossed hood and balanced proportions. It is important that the car body panels are completely original and not borrowed from other LADA, while most of them are galvanized.
7 colors are available to customers, including branded blue (“captain”) and orange (“Tabasco”, only for Cross-universal), as well as three types of bodies: sedan, station wagon and cross-universal.
Comparing the dimensions with Granta, the ISKRA sedan is 65 millimeters longer, 77 wider and has a significantly larger wheelbase – 2,603 millimeters against 2,476 millimeters of Granta. ISKRA is standardly equipped with 15-inch wheels, top versions receive 16-inch wheels.

In the salon, ISKRA immediately attracts attention with a simple but high -quality plastic, good assembly and elements of soft finishes on the front panel. Techno top equipment includes a two-tone finish, multi-line, a modern dashboard and a multimedia system with an 8-inch IPS screen.
The landing is convenient, the review is excellent, the front seats have good side support. The rear row offers a modest supply of knees, so if the three of them go there, it will be crowded.
In the line of power units, ISKRA offers a 1.6-liter eight-valve engine with a capacity of 90 horsepower in pairs with a five-speed manual gearbox. It is assumed that a 16-valve 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 106 horsepower, working with a new six-speed “mechanics”, will become more popular. This motor is economical and quiet enough, and the gearbox switchs clearly and easily. For top versions, the same 106-horsepower engine is combined with Wly variator. It feels more dynamic to ISKRA behaves with the “mechanics”, while the variator version at high speeds is noisier.

The suspension is effectively coping with road irregularities and is ideal for the city. The expert noted the predictable handling: the steering wheel is responsive, the car confidently holds the trajectory and does not cause a desire to swing. High maneuverability is noted due to a small radius of rotation, which is important in constrained urban conditions, but the version with a 106-horsepower engine and “mechanics” feels more confident on the highway.
One of the main advantages of ISKRA is fuel economy. The passport consumption of the 16-valve version with the manual transmission is 7.8 liters per 100 kilometers, and when you calmly ride, it is really possible to achieve about 7 liters per 100 kilometers.
Comparing the three models, the expert identifies 5 main points. Granta uses an outdated platform of the 80-90s, simple, but inferior in security and comfort. Vesta, created with the participation of Renault-Nissan, is more modern, but limited to new technologies and electrification. ISKRA is built on a deeply redesigned CMF-B-LS platform (localized Renault), which opens the way for new engines, multimedia systems and electronic assistants in the future.

Granta has an outdated body and is often deprived of the ESP system, showing the low results of crash tests. Vesta is safer, only ISKRA was originally developed for strict EURO NCAP standards, promising a higher level of protection.
Granta today looks archaic today, the interior model is outdated. Vesta has the modern design of Steve Mattin, but it is inferior in the relevance of ISKRA. She offers Bolle a stylish appearance, and her ergonomics meets the latest requirements.
Granta is an exclusively utilitarian car with a tight salon. Vesta is closer to foreign cars in equipment and has the most spacious salon in this “three”. ISKRA offers more useful space than Granta, but less than Vesta.
Granta uses the most budget materials, the assembly is focused on “vitality”. Vesta has softer materials, but suffers from weak sound insulation. ISKRA has improved sound insulation, more anatomical seats, hard plastic was used.
