The head of KAMAZ called foreign components in new K5 trucks

In an interview with the corporate newspaper Vesti KamAZ, the top manager emphasized that one hundred percent localization makes no sense, and the plant will not be engaged in peripheral things like brackets and fasteners. However, Sergey Kogogin admitted that now in KAMAZ K5, a Chinese robotic gearbox and imported bridges are used: the production of these nodes has to be mastered.

The CEO of KamAZ believes that “trying to do everything yourself is an unsuitable and ungrateful task”, and the quality of suppliers from China from India is “quite high”. Sergei Kogogin listed the key components of the car that is important to localize in Russia: this is a frame, an engine, bridges, a gearbox and a cab. The cab and frame are already completely localized, the engine is more than 80%.

But the KAMAZ electronics will not be released by itself: competencies in this area for too long to develop. They plan to buy plastics on the side, as well as auxiliary fasteners.

This time, Sergei Kogogin did not say anything bad about Russian suppliers, but he noted: the partners did not always succeed. The KamAZ CEO recalled that Bosch components were without any problems, with analogues from Russia and China, the automaker encountered “with a full set of complaints.”
