The new Mercedes Cla could not be charged from old terminals

The Wards Auto portal found in the description of the novelty support for a single charging format. Owners of Mercedes-Benz Cla from Germany, Austria or Switzerland will have to look for 800-volt terminals, because there are no 400 volts of 800 volts of the electric car. Thus, it is impossible to charge the sedan from ordinary public charges with direct current and the Tesla Supercharger network.

Mercedes-Benz recognizes restrictions on the online configurator with the message that “charging from 400-volt terminals is impossible, so they are not displayed by the navigation system.” You can charge an electric car from charging devices with alternating current, so home terminals and public stations of this type will fit. But the old charges, which in Europe were a lot, were overboard.

Competing automakers have chosen another approach aimed at the convenience of everyday use. Hyundai, Kia, Audi or Porsche electric cars can even be charged from 400-volt terminals: charging will be slow, but technically possible. However, there is an assumption that Mercedes-Benz Cla for the Norway market will still receive a built-in converter for 400 volts, although this is not officially confirmed.

The representative of Mercedes-Benz did not answer questions on the merits, but recalled that the stroke of the new CLA reaches 792 kilometers (WLTP). Obviously, in the conditions of undeveloped infrastructure of charging stations, not only autonomy, but also compatibility with terminals of different manufacturers is important.
