The 2.6 billion rubles allocated for the program were redistributed to more urgent tasks in accordance with the order dated December 26, 2025, reports ixbt.ru.
The bulk of the funds – 2.2 billion rubles – is aimed at reducing the weight of the airframe (wing, fuselage, landing gear), improving aerodynamics and preparing a domestic interior for the imported MS-21-310 in 2026-2027. The remaining 400 million rubles will be used to extend the service life of the communication centers of the Tu-214 special aircraft for the Rossiya SLO.
MS-21 is a Russian medium-range aircraft of a new generation from PJSC Yakovlev (part of the UAC), designed to replace the outdated Tu-154, Tu-204, as well as foreign Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
The base model MS-21−310 seats 211 passengers, is made of 40% composite materials and is equipped with Russian PD-14 engines. Flight range in a configuration with 175 passengers is 3830 km.
