The research company JATO Dynamics summed up the results of November. Overall sales of new cars in Europe fell 1.7% year-on-year, but the decline was larger in some countries: registrations fell 12.7% in France and 10.8% in Italy. The title of best-selling car for the second month in a row goes to the Dacia Sandero, and this is a bid for the title of absolute bestseller of 2024.
The best-selling European car in 2023 was the Tesla Model Y (251.6 thousand units), but this year the American brand will not repeat the success. The highest sales growth was recorded for fuel models Volkswagen Tiguan, Peugeot 208, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen T-Roc. In the overall standings, Dacia Sandero is in first place, and Volkswagen Golf has held second place since the beginning of the year.

Due to the failures of the Tesla Model 3 in the manufacturers’ standings, the American brand slipped into the second ten, and the top 5 brands in November consist of Volkswagen (117 thousand units), Toyota (75 thousand units), Skoda (68 thousand units), BMW (68 thousand units) and Mercedes (62 thousand units). Electric vehicles and hybrids (BEVs) are slowly gaining market share, rising from 17.0 percent to 17.4 percent over the year. It is curious that in the UK (+58%), the Netherlands (+44%) and Norway (+30%) demand is growing strongly, while in France (-25%) and Germany (-22%) it is falling sharply.
Chinese automakers sold more than 24 thousand cars in Europe in November, but this result takes into account sales of Volvo, Lotus and Polestar. Due to the low base effect, Leapmotor (+296%), BYD (+127%) and Xpeng (+93%) experienced explosive growth. If the European Union does implement tariffs, expansion will accelerate.
