The majority of new cars sold in Russia last year were models from Chinese brands. This conclusion was reached at the Department of Control Technologies of Novgorod University, TASS reports. The share of the “Chinese” in the market exceeded 15 percent compared to five percent in 2020, and reached 60 percent in sales of new cars.

About 30 percent of new cars sold in Russia in 2024 are domestic. Japanese, European and other defunct brands accounted for 10 percent of the new car market.

Based on the results of January-November last year, the total cost of supplies of Chinese cars to Russia amounted to $13.8 billion. This is 28.6 percent more than in the same period in 2023.

The overall price of imported spare parts for Chinese cars has also increased. It reached $2.4 billion, which is 29.3 percent more than in January-November the year before. The PRC customs has not yet disclosed the indicators for all 12 months of 2024.

Experts are confident that the range of Chinese brands in the Russian Federation will soon stop growing. Moreover, unpopular brands will not be able to resist and will leave the market. In their opinion, those at risk are Skywell, SWM, Haima, VGV, Kaiyi, Livan and Foton.
