The State Duma approved an increase in fines for drivers by one and a half times

The Lower House adopted amendments to the Administrative Offenses Code (Code of Administrative Offenses), according to which, from January 1, 2025, fines for traffic violations will increase. Sanctions will increase for 11 offenses: for speeding, running a red light, driving on the side of the road, and others. At the same time, the discount for payment within the first 20 days, to which drivers are already accustomed, will decrease sharply – from the current 50 percent to 25.

The fine for the most common violation in Russia – speeding by 20-40 kilometers per hour – will increase from the current 500 to 750 rubles. With a discount of only 25 percent, it will decrease to 562 rubles.

Sanctions for non-compliance with markings and signs will similarly increase. For exceeding 40-60 kilometers they will be fined 1500-2500 rubles instead of 1000-1500, for driving on red – 1500 instead of 1000, for driving on the side of the road – 2500 instead of 1500, for driving into the oncoming lane or tram tracks in the opposite direction when going around an obstacle – by 1500−2500 instead 1000−1500.

In Russia, they decided to exempt ambulances, fire engines and police cars from fines. The State Duma approved a discount on fines for unpaid parking. It became known when traffic cameras will begin to check the absence of an MTPL policy.

Failure to comply with markings and signs prohibiting parking or stopping in Moscow and St. Petersburg will result in a fine of 4,500 rubles instead of 3,000.

The fine for lack of compulsory motor insurance will remain the same – 800 rubles – however, you will have to pay on time not 400, but 600 rubles. For repeated driving without a policy, “motor citizens” will be punished with a fine of 3,000–5,000 rubles.

In Russia they chose the car of the year. Spoiler: he’s Chinese
