The successful Mercedes in Russia has become Gelik: the whole thing is in sanctions

The founder of Avtostat Sergey Tselikov shared his curious statistics. From March 2022 to April 2025, 19.2 thousand new “Mercedes” were imported into Russia, and “Gelendevagen” turned out to be the most popular! The share of the G-Class in the total sales volume took off to 21%, and the frame SUV was ahead of the previous GLE bestseller (17%). In third place GLS (16%).

Prior to the sanctions, Mercedes-Benz G-Class was not even included in the five leaders in our market: the most bought Gle, E-Class, GLC and GLS, which found confirmation in the local assembly of these machines in the suburbs. However, the restrictions turned the market turned: GLC (254 body) and E-Class (214 body) became rare, but S-Class (13.5% of the supply) entered the number of bestsellers.

For the entire period of sanctions, Belarus became the main supplier of Mercedes: 36.5% of all luxury machines were imported through the “most friendly country”. On the second line of Kyrgyzstan (16.8%), then Germany is going on (10.6%). It is interesting that South Korea is only in fourth place (6.7%), and Estonia was ahead of Kazakhstan (6.5%versus 5.1%). More than 80% of cars were imported with the design of individuals, which is quite logical.

Although in China there is also a BEIJING-BENZ assembly plant, in Russia such options are not very popular. Only 4.5% of the new “Mercedes” turned out to be Chinese assembly: buyers prefer “canonical” versions from factories in Germany or the USA. The weighted average price of the new Mercedes-Benz in Russia rose to 20 million rubles.
