The US Department of Justice discovered the strange automobile addictions of the notorious Jeffrey Epstein

Published documents concerning the financier reveal his attempts to obtain car models rare for the American market, including through personal connections.

At the turn of 2014-2015, Epstein expressed interest in purchasing a Toyota Century executive sedan, a car that was not officially supplied to the United States.

He turned to his contacts inside Toyota and tried to bypass standard procedures. However, company representatives turned him down, explaining that legalizing one car in the States would require expensive modifications to meet federal safety standards, which is not economically feasible. Despite this, one of Epstein’s assistants offered to find a dealer to unofficially import and subsequently modify the car.

Another goal of the financier was the extended limousine Hyundai Equus. In the correspondence, he asked the employee whether this model was available in New York or whether it was possible to import it. In addition, Epstein and his entourage discussed a range of other cars: Chevrolet Express vans, Nissan NV and Ford Transit, as well as luxury Maybach and Rolls-Royce models.

The discussions also included a crude joke about a hypothetical joint venture between Ford and Renault. According to the joke, combining the Renault Clio and Ford Taurus would create a car called the “Cli-Taurus” (a reference to the clitoris) that “comes in pink so the average car thief won’t be able to find it.”

Epstein’s case remains one of the most resonant in the United States. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a minor, and in 2019 he was rearrested on charges of human trafficking and prostitution. That same year, he was found without signs of life in a pre-trial detention center before his trial, which gave rise to numerous versions and conspiracy theories related to his contacts with representatives of the world elite.

Earlier, an expert named five Chinese cars that rust the fastest.
