Next on the list is a 2001 Toyota Echo with 605K miles. Under the hood, the Echo was powered by a 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE inline-four engine—an engine that barely made over a hundred horsepower, but whose reputation was truly impeccable.

Another strong argument in favor of Japanese quality is the 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup, which has 619 thousand kilometers on the odometer. The secret to such longevity lies under the hood: it’s powered by a 2.7-liter 3RZ-FE inline-four engine.

The next record holder on the list is Toyota Sequoia with a mileage of 627 thousand kilometers. This is 8.1 times higher than the average resource of a regular SUV, and such phenomenal survivability is explained simply: the legendary V8 engines, which were installed only on the first two generations of the model.

With a range of 658 kilometers, the 2009 Toyota Prius was included in the rating – a car that many are accustomed to consider “disposable” due to its complex hybrid filling. In practice, everything is different. The heart of the car is the 1.5-liter inline-four 1NZ-FXE engine. It’s one of the most fuel-efficient engines in history, but the secret to the Prius’s longevity lies in smart engineering.

Another contender for the title of reliable is the 1998 Toyota Corolla with a mileage of 660 thousand kilometers. Under the hood, this one has a 1.8-liter inline-four 1ZZ-FE engine – an engine that managed to become a legend during its lifetime.

Another confirmation of the legendary survivability is the 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup, which stubbornly refuses to retire even after 676 thousand kilometers. The heart of this “worker” is the already familiar 2.7-liter 3RZ-FE engine.

Next comes the tenth generation Toyota Corolla. We are talking about the 2011 model, which has already established itself as one of the most reliable cars for everyday use. The mileage of 798 thousand kilometers proves that half a million miles is not a myth or a fluke, but a completely real and achievable goal for this sedan.

The rating included the ninth generation Toyota Corolla, whose mileage exceeded 830 thousand kilometers. The basic version of this sedan was equipped with the same legendary 1.8-liter 1ZZ-FE engine (familiar from the previous generation, but with slightly increased output), which had already proven its worth in previous copies. However, the real gem in this story is the 2005 XRS version. Under its hood lies not just an engine, but a real masterpiece of engineering: a 1.8-liter 2ZZ-GE unit.

At the top of the ranking is the 1999 Toyota 4Runner with 966 thousand kilometers. The basic version was equipped with a 2.7-liter 3RZ-FE four – the same engine that was installed on the Tacoma and which is famous for its reliability. For those who needed more power, a 3.4-liter V6 5VZ-FE was offered. Both engines are real long-livers.
