As early as the fall of 2024, the Japanese company confirmed plans for the revival of the cult model, which, contrary to trends, will not turn into an electric car, but will retain the internal combustion engine. Now it has become known that the sports car will retain the historical name – Toyota extended the rights to the CELICA trademark in Japan, the European Union and the USA, and in Brazil registered the name GR Celica, reports Motor1.
Preparations for the revival of Toyota Celica are conducted, although the model on the market will have to wait for a long time – it will be assumed presumably only in 2028. The fact that Toyota registered the name GR Celica says that the machine will become part of the sports line, as already happened with the SUPRA compartment.

One of the units that Toyota will develop in conjunction with Subaru and Mazda are foreseen – probably the next generation two -liter turbo engine. Its power will be about 400 horsepower, and the “charged” version will develop about 600 forces. Finally, Celica can get a full -wheel drive system from GR Yaris and GR Corolla.
There are rumors that Toyota for the first time wants to save Celica from the front location of the power unit and will install the engine behind, within the base, like the concept of GR Yaris M.
The Toyota report on work in 2024 was previously published: sales of the entire Japanese concern and a passenger unit showed a fall by 3.7 percent, up to 10.82 million pieces. Toyota and Lexus implemented 10,159,336 cars over the past year, which is 1.4 percent less than in 2023. The share of benzoelectric models in the total sales accounts accounted for 40.8 percent.
Despite the decrease in indicators, Toyota for the fifth year in a row holds the title of the largest automobile company in the world.
