Toyota retained the title of the leader of the world car market

In 2024, the Japanese auto giant and his “daughters” sold 10.8 million cars around the world. This is not a record: compared with 2023, sales were sank by 3.7 percent, which is also due to a sharp decline in demand in their homeland. In second place is Volkswagen Group, and in the third – Hyundai.

Toyota and Lexus brands and Lexus sales in 2024 fell 1.4 percent compared to the year before last and amounted to 10.2 million cars.

The year has become successful for the Japanese in the United States, where the demand for hybrids has grown, but in China-the largest car market in the world-interest fell by 6.9 percent due to growing pressure from local brands.

In the ranking of favorite cars of Europeans, the leader of Norway has been replaced by records for sales of electric cars for the sale of new cars in Russia increased by almost 50% in 2024

All Volkswagen Group sold fewer cars than Toyota and Lexus – about nine million. This is 2.3 percent less than in 2023. The result of Hyundai and Kia, closing the first three, is about 7.5 million cars.

In general, about 88.6 million new cars were sold around the world for 2024. This is 2.1 percent more than the result of 2023. More than 25 million sold in China, in the USA almost 16 million, and in Western Europe – more than 13 million.
