Toyota will have its first own plant in China

The company will build an independent enterprise in China, where it will produce electric vehicles of its premium Lexus brand. Nikkei Asia managed to find out about this. According to sources, the plant will be located in Shanghai and will be ready to launch around 2027. Toyota expects that it will help it strengthen its position in the world’s largest automobile market.

Currently, Toyota produces cars in China only in joint ventures with local manufacturers. For example, it has a joint venture with FAW, which launched production of the new Land Cruiser Prado in Chengdu in the summer. Toyota’s Chinese partners also include GAC and BYD.

Thus, the Shanghai plant will be Toyota’s first local plant that it will operate independently. Toyota itself has not yet confirmed information from insiders.

A hatchback with all-wheel drive and a range of about 1,000 kilometers will become serial: this is expected to happen just in time for the completion of the new Chinese factory.
