Two new Alpina models will appear after the legendary brand comes under the wing of BMW

The deal for the Bavarian automaker to acquire a brand with a 60-year history from the Bovensiepen family was closed back in 2022, but under the terms of the deal, full control over the Alpina brand passed to BMW only at the beginning of 2026. The first models to wear the updated BMW Alpina nameplate will be the flagship 7 Series sedan and the X7 crossover. Autocar reports this with reference to Joachim Post, head of research and development at the BMW Group.

The post confirmed that in the new phase, the Alpina brand will start with the same models that were previously at the top of the independent Alpina brand. Considering that both the 7 Series sedan and the X7 crossover are awaiting a major update in the second half of the year, with the introduction of the Neue Klasse corporate style, the first Alpina from BMW itself will appear after it.

Regarding the powertrains that will be used in the new Alpina, Post made it clear that BMW is technologically neutral: “We are open to different technologies,” he answered when asked about the range of powertrains, taking into account the fact that the BMW 7 Series can be both gasoline and electric.

In addition, BMW intends to separate cars from the M and Alpina lines into different segments. The former will embody sport and maximum performance, the latter will occupy the niche of speed, comfort and luxury.

In the case of the BMW Alpina, the automaker will place the main emphasis on exclusive materials, quality finishes and an individual approach. These cars will be positioned between BMW and Rolls-Royce cars to attract customers who might look towards Bentley and Mercedes-Maybach.

Previously, Volkswagen Jettas began to burst into flames while driving.
