BMW’s takeover of Alpina will finally go beyond just another luxury sedan. On May 15, the Vision BMW Alpina concept will premiere at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, which will set the vector for the brand’s development. The teaser photo already provides some intriguing clues. Carscoops reports this.
The blurred image of the car parked on top of a cliff reveals a low coupe with a sloping rear and elongated proportions. It is not yet clear whether it is a two-door or a four-door, but the silhouette is more reminiscent of an elegant gran turismo than any of the models currently presented in BMW showrooms.
According to some sources, the new product is visually close to the old 8 Series Gran Coupe, but the lighting technology looks completely different – it hints at a more exclusive audience. This detail is important, because Alpina models (even the latest XB7 Manufaktur based on the X7) have traditionally been just modified versions of production BMWs. The new concept shows that the company is finally ready to bring Alpina into a more premium segment.
According to Autocar, future Alpina cars will focus on comfort, refinement and personalization rather than high-performance performance in the spirit of BMW M. Joachim Post, head of BMW Group research and development, said the brand “will not talk about sport, but about speed, comfort and luxury.”
