Volkswagen will not discontinue the Tiguan familiar to Russians until 2035

The European version of the popular crossover with internal combustion engines will be produced for another decade. The Tiguan, which is based on the modular MQB Evo platform, will receive two major updates.

The chairman of the works council, Daniela Cavallo, revealed details of the strategy during the first workers’ meeting in 2026 in Wolfsburg: the car will be updated in 2028 and 2031. In fact, the current generation of Tiguan will remain on the production line until at least 2035, which coincides with the concern’s plans to keep internal combustion engines on the European market until the middle of the next decade.

The first modernization of 2028 will most likely affect the electronics and interior: you can expect a return to physical buttons, more advanced software and minimal changes to the exterior, such as new graphics for optics and bumpers. The second update for 2031, which will come eight years after the debut of the current generation Tiguan, should be more significant: it will likely bring the design in line with the brand’s new styling. Power units will need to be brought into compliance with increasingly stringent environmental standards.
