Xiaomi is still losing money on every car sold

According to the results of the second quarter of 2025, the operational loss of the Xiaomi Auto division decreased to $ 41 million. In three months, the company shipped 81,302 electric cars, having lost about $ 507 on each. This is much less than before, and analysts believe that business will soon be released in a “plus”. Perhaps this will happen before the end of this year.

So, in the first quarter of 2025, Xiaomi loss amounted to about 70 million dollars, and approximately 76 thousand cars were delivered. That is, the company lost $ 900 per electric car. Prior to this, losses at about $ 1,400 per car were recorded.

At the same time, the average price of the sold electric vehicles increased. In the second quarter of 2024, the indicator was about 31 thousand dollars, and now it rose to 35 thousand. This is largely due to the launch of sales of the extreme SU7 Ultra, which is estimated at 72.7 thousand dollars in the “base”. For the top version, Nürburgring Limited Edition is asked by “luxury” $ 112 thousand.

Xiaomi managed to increase production, but due to high demand, problems with deliveries are preserved. So, Yu7 Max crossovers were sold on the first day of sales on June 26, and now customers are waiting for cars “made on an individual order.” Waiting time is 50-53 weeks or about a year. The brand website indicates approximately the same terms – from 41 to 58 weeks, depending on the selected configuration.

Those who do not want to wait so long, CEO of Xiaomi Lay Jun proposed paying attention to other electric cars. Its list of recommendations contains Xpeng G7, Li Auto i8 and even a direct competitor to Yu7 – Tesla Model Y.
