“Our armored personnel carrier is outdated, we don’t have a full-fledged one. Our company has undertaken to do [мащину нового поколения] on one’s own. This year we will raise this machine, begin testing in order to produce a pilot production batch next year,” said the head of KamAZ PJSC Sergei Kogogin during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

An armored personnel carrier is an armored transport and combat vehicle for transporting personnel to the place of combat mission, as well as evacuating the wounded. In addition, the armored personnel carrier can effectively support infantry with on-board weapon fire.

Currently in service with the Russian Army is the 2013 model BTR-82, a Russian armored personnel carrier that is a deep modernization of the Soviet BTR-80.

Also known is the more modern project BTR-90 “Rostok” (GAZ-5923) – a wheeled amphibious armored combat vehicle equipped with small arms.

However, the BTR-90 was not mass-produced: only an installation batch was made, but the armored personnel carrier was ultimately not accepted into service with the Russian army.
