The first and main rule is regular washing at least three to four times a month in February and March, and always using shampoo, and not just water from a hose, a specialist told Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“You should start with regular washing – it removes salt and plaque without damaging the paintwork. In February and March, it is useful to wash your car at least three to four times a month. The main thing is not to confuse washing with a stream of water from a hose: without shampoo, such a procedure only creates the illusion of cleanliness,” said Dmitry Yarygin.
To protect against chips and sand, the expert recommends armoring the hood, sills and bumpers with thin polyurethane or vinyl film. It lasts 7–8 years, can be easily removed without leaving marks, but it is better to have it glued by a professional service.
Regular polishing is also useful, which eliminates microcracks, and seam sealing, which saves welded joints. A modern solution is “liquid ceramic” coatings and quartz compounds that form a hydrophobic barrier, protect against reagents and impart a mirror shine.
Particular attention should be paid to hidden cavities: treating them with a multi-purpose penetrating lubricant displaces moisture and creates a protective film. It is better to store the car in a dry, ventilated area; If you don’t have a garage, a canopy or thick cover will do. The main thing is not to leave the car in puddles or slushy snow.
And finally, the expert advises carrying out anti-corrosion treatment immediately after purchasing a car, since factory protection is not omnipotent – the underbody, arches and sills require additional attention.
