Autostat: sales of Japanese cars in the Russian Federation increased 3.5 times

In the first quarter of 2026, 18.6 thousand new Japanese cars were sold in Russia. This is 3.5 times more than for the same period in 2025 (5,390 units). Experts from the Autostat agency report this with reference to data from PPK JSC.

“Despite the fact that the Japanese are present in our country unofficially, their market share has more than tripled over the year: from 2.2% in the 1st quarter of 2025 to 7% in the 1st quarter of this year,” noted Dmitry Yarygin, deputy head of the analytics department of the Autostat agency.

Toyota remains the most popular Japanese brand in Russia: sales of new cars increased 2.1 times. In second place is Mazda (an increase of almost 14 times). Honda closes the top three (1,564 units; an increase of 4.6 times). The top five also included Lexus and Nissan.

The undisputed leader among Japanese models is the Mazda CX-5: 6,183 units were sold in the first quarter. Next come three Toyota models: RAV4 (2,350 units), Highlander (2,263 units) and Camry (1,264 units). The rest of the new Japanese cars sold less than a thousand copies.
