At the Kazan Expo Truck exhibition, Maxim Sokolov told Motor that in 2025 an eight -valve engine 1.8 would supplant a classic “atmospheric” with a volume of 1.7 liters. In the second half of the year, the new unit will receive Lada Niva Travel, and by the end of the year – the usual Niva Legend. Both SUVs will be equipped with a 1.8-liter engine, which is created on the basis of 1.8 EVO from Vesta.
The head of AvtoVAZ added that the transition to a new engine will entail changes in the transmission: the classic “Niva” will receive a handout with one lever, as on an SUV with a sport prefix. On the NIVA family “Atmospheric” 1.8 will develop 90 horsepower: the characteristics will be selected so that the unit gives out more torque at low speeds.
