BAIC began sales of competitor Tank 300: 548 power and 1200 km range

New BJ40e all-terrain vehicles have appeared at dealers in China. The model differs from its gasoline and diesel counterparts in its rechargeable hybrid power plant and modified rear suspension design. Cross-country ability has become slightly worse, but efficiency has increased and dynamics have improved: gasoline consumption has dropped to 1.4-8.7 liters per hundred, acceleration from 0-100 takes 5.5 seconds.

The fuel BAIC BJ40 is created according to the classic scheme: “longitudinal” 2.0 engine, solid rear axle, part-time all-wheel drive and reduction gear. The BJ40e hybrid has no mechanical connection between the 1.5 petrol engine and the wheels: the front and rear axles are driven by electric motors, and the rear suspension is independent. The peak output of the system is 548 horsepower and 655 Nm, and the 188 horsepower turbo engine only charges a battery with a capacity of 40 kilowatt-hours.

In the optimal WLTC cycle, the hybrid SUV can travel up to 1,200 kilometers, and without activating the internal combustion engine – up to 152 kilometers. Instead of mechanical locks, there are now electronic imitations, ground clearance has been reduced from 230 to 215 millimeters, although the fording depth remains the same 750 millimeters. There are minimal differences in the interior, and externally the new product differs only in the wheels, mudguards and charging hatch.

The hybrid BAIC BJ40e, as expected, has become the most expensive: such SUVs cost from 224,800 to 244,800 yuan (30.8-33.5 thousand dollars). For comparison, the basic gasoline version will cost 179,800 yuan ($24.6 thousand). Prices for the Tank 300 hybrid, comparable in size and positioning, reached 270 thousand yuan ($37 thousand).
