The popular Chinese crossover, which has been in production since 2020, has both typical faults for cars in this segment and unexpected problems, including corrosion on cars less than five years old. Such machines also have problems with electronics. On the secondary market, such cars are offered at prices starting from 1.5 million rubles.
Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and Pro Max are equipped only with turbo engines. The base engine is 1.5 with 147 hp. with a cast iron block and distributed injection, it is considered reliable, “digests” AI-92 gasoline and is capable of traveling up to 400 thousand km. However, it is only combined with front-wheel drive and a CVT.
The 1.6 engine (150 hp) on the Pro Max version is all aluminum, with direct injection. It requires refueling with AI-95 gasoline and has a shorter service life (about 250 thousand km). Potential problems for this unit are carbon deposits on the intake valves and a clogged EGR system.
But the main questions are raised by the transmission: the WLY CVT25 variator theoretically withstands 250 thousand km, but after 100 thousand km the bushings, bearings, and then the cones themselves and the belt begin to wear out. At the same time, repairing the variator is expensive. A seven-speed “robot” with two “wet” clutches is considered more successful.
The suspension of the Chinese crossover does not present any surprises – the elements last 80-120 thousand km, except for the struts and stabilizer bushings. But the steering rods and ends turned out to be unreliable and may require replacement at 80-100 thousand km.
The greatest trouble for owners is caused by electronics: interruptions in the operation of ABS have been noted, which can be eliminated by reflashing. Failures of the central locking system, tailgate opening drives and electromechanical handbrake were also recorded. Also, the fan unit, media system and climate control display freeze from time to time. Corrosion on the body of cars less than five years old is another unpleasant surprise.
