“Behind the Wheel” expert Sergei Zinoviev considers the Dongfeng 580 (DFM 580) one of the few Chinese crossovers that meet its parameters: RAV4 size, age 4-6 years, mileage up to 100 thousand and price up to 1.5 million rubles. However, he notes that it is difficult to find such a car on the secondary market – until 2024, it sold poorly.
“There are only two modifications, and we won’t risk recommending the one with a 1.5 turbo engine (145 hp) and a Punch VT3 variator – because of the variator, which is not famous for its high reliability. The engine with distributed injection and a cast-iron block does not hide any special ambushes. The second combination: naturally aspirated 1.8 (132 hp) – a clone of Toyota’s 1ZZ-FE – paired with a manual transmission,” notes Zinoviev.
The expert noted that after 100 thousand km the engine may eat up oil and require replacing the timing chain, but a manual gearbox does not cause any complaints and is cheaper to repair than a CVT. The remaining components, according to him, are successful: the body is high-quality painted, breakdowns are rare (except for possible antifreeze leaks), the interior is spacious and comfortable, the electronics work without failures. As a result, Zinoviev recommended the version with “mechanics” for purchase.
