The German brand has discontinued production of the two-door Z4. The last car of the G29 generation rolled off the assembly line at the Magna Steyr plant in Graz (Austria). Thus, having also lost the open 8 Series, the company retained only one convertible in the range – the 4 Series (G23). The current version of the BMW Z4 has been produced since 2018; there will be no new generation in the foreseeable future.

The Z4 production was discontinued eight years after the model’s premiere. In design, the roadster was closely related to the A90 generation Toyota Supra coupe, which was also assembled in Graz. The fate of its Japanese counterpart is still unclear, but Toyota has already promised to return the Supra name to the market. Z4 sales have fallen steadily since 2019, its first full year on the market. The peak occurred in 2019, when 15.8 thousand cars were sold. In 2025, dealers sold only 9.7 thousand.

At the same time, in the last months before the model’s departure, demand unexpectedly increased: in the first quarter of 2026, sales increased by almost 5% compared to the same period last year and reached 2.6 thousand units. Remains in dealer warehouses will still allow sports car connoisseurs to buy a new Z4 in the near future.

According to the publication’s sources, the new generation Z4 will not appear in the near future. Nevertheless, history knows of breaks in the release of the Z-series. Four years passed between the departure of the Z1 (1991) and the debut of the Z3. Then there were the Z8 (1999−2003), Z4 E85/E86 (2003−2008) and Z4 E89 (2009−2016). The current G29 lasted from 2018 to 2026. In addition, according to unofficial information, BMW has approved the release of the i4 coupe, and an electric convertible could theoretically appear on its basis in the next decade. However, given the tightening of environmental regulations in the EU (by 2035, automakers must reduce CO₂ emissions by 90%), the survival of the gasoline open sports car is in question.

Previously, the most popular luxury used cars in Russia were named.
