BMW M will release 30 new models by 2029

Large-scale plans were announced by the CEO of the BMW M division, Frank van Meel. This will include not only uncompromising sports cars based on the production sedans and coupes, but also new and updated models of the M Performance line, which are distinguished by their sporty exterior design.

The new products will include cars with gasoline engines, as well as hybrid and electric powertrains. At the same time, the manual transmission on cars from the BMW sports division is in danger of extinction.

“We are working on 30 new models that will be released in the next two and a half years, so we are very busy right now,” the Australian publication Carsale quotes BMW M boss Frank van Meel as saying.

As the top manager stated, the life cycle of a number of key models of the Bavarian brand is coming to an end. In the near future, we should expect the appearance of a new generation of BMW X5 and X6 crossovers. This, according to van Meel, explains the fact that the high-performance M version for the latest X3 has not yet been presented – the launch of new “charged” models on the market requires careful synchronization.

He also confirmed that the first “true” electric M car, the iM3, will debut next year, but said the internal combustion engine version of the M3 will continue to be produced. It will exist in parallel with the electric version, as well as the M Performance cars for future generations of the 3 Series, 4 Series and many other new products.

Frank van Meel emphasized that it is the M Performance models that make a huge contribution to the company’s success, with the help of which the company aims to fill the gap between high-performance versions and the top versions of standard BMWs. Taking them into account, in 2025 the BMW M division sold more than 213 thousand cars.
