The National Automobile Union (NAU) asked Rosstandart to conduct an additional safety check of Changan cars sold in Russia. The reason for the appeal was a video showing a Changan UNI-S (CS55 Plus) after a collision, as a result of which the car received significant damage to the backs of the front seats. This incident raises serious questions about the compliance of Changan vehicles with Russian safety standards and potential health risks for drivers and passengers. NAS insists on a thorough investigation and taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of cars on Russian roads.

The National Automobile Union draws attention to the differences in vehicle safety certification systems in China and Russia. Chinese seat impact tests are carried out at speeds of 15.65 kilometers, while Russian standards mainly focus on seat rigidity, without providing for crash testing. NAS President Anton Shaparin emphasizes that even a single case of serious damage to the back of a seat in a relatively minor accident should be the reason for a thorough investigation.

Damage to the back of the seat can lead to a compression fracture of the spine in the driver or passenger. We urge Rosstandart and the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate to jointly study the accident statistics of Changan cars, assess the extent of damage and injuries sustained as a result of the accident, and take appropriate measures.

The safest cars in the world have been named based on the results of 2024. Chery spoke about the safety of the new Tiggo 4 for Russia. The first regional road safety rating has appeared in Russia.

We believe that the powers of Rosstandart allow us to recall vehicles for repair together with manufacturers if systematic non-compliance with safety requirements is identified. The Russian representative office of Changan stated that they were aware of the situation, but noted the lack of detailed information about the car and the circumstances of the accident.

A company representative told Rossiyskaya Gazeta that the owner of this car did not contact the official representative office or official dealers. In addition, company representatives noted that in 2024, 38,397 copies of the CS55 Plus / Uni-S were sold in Russia, but no such cases of deformation of the backs of the front seats with similar damage to the rear of the car were officially registered.

In the summer, another case related to the quality of Chinese cars became known. The gearbox of the new Omoda S5 GT sedan broke down immediately after purchase. A resident of Yekaterinburg purchased a car at an official dealership, but did not have time to enjoy his new acquisition when he encountered a transmission breakdown almost immediately after leaving the dealership.
