A few years ago, BYD’s YangWang took the internet by storm when it showed off its U8 SUV floating through the water like a pleasure boat. Now another Chinese brand, Jetour, has proven that its new G700 can do the same. Carscoops reports this.
Jetour has modified the G700: the amphibious modification Ark Edition is equipped with a special power plant that makes the SUV not just floating, but a real vessel on wheels.
On the water, the G700 switches from wheels to propellers: it is they, not the wheels, who receive power from the 2.0-liter turbo-hybrid four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. The gyroscopic stabilization system is responsible for stability. The tests took place last week – the SUV crossed Yanqi Lake north of Beijing.
The Jetour G700 is approximately the same size as a Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series. The manufacturer plans to export the model to global markets. Engine 892 hp and 1135 Nm of torque accelerates the car to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Three lockable differentials provide the SUV with the necessary maneuverability.
The G700 received a CATL traction battery with a capacity of 31.4 kWh, which provides an electric range of up to 150 km. The battery supports fast charging: from 20 to 80% can be charged in 10 minutes.
