Exeed will release an EX7 crossover with brakes like an airplane

The brand, owned by the Chinese concern Chery, will abandon hydraulic brakes on the new Exeed EX7 model. There will be no more brake lines and fluid: the system will become electromechanical, and deceleration signals will be transmitted through wires, like in airplanes.

The new Exeed EX7 crossover, which will debut on April 17, will be the world’s first production passenger car with such brakes. The system was developed for three years. Chery Vice President Li Xueyong said that engineers were able to solve the problems of millisecond response time, precision force dosing and “extreme reliability.” Instead of pressing the pedal, transmitting force through fluid to the caliper pistons, the EMB works like a wire: the electrical signal goes directly to the electromechanical actuators at each wheel. In fact, this is a technology that has long been used in aviation, but has not yet been introduced into the automotive industry.

The system works in conjunction with a modernized chassis. The company promises not only a reduction in braking distance, but also fundamentally new stability in any conditions: the response time is reduced by orders of magnitude, and algorithms can dose the force on each wheel individually and faster than any hydraulics.

The EX7 itself is a large five-meter crossover (4,988 mm long, wheelbase 3,000 mm). Essentially, this is an updated version of the Exeed Exlantix ET model for the domestic market, but with a new design: a pass-through LED strip at the front, split optics and recessed lights at the rear.

In the cabin there is a 30-inch screen that combines the instrument cluster, the main display of the media system and an additional one for the passenger. There are two powertrain options: a sequential hybrid with a 1.5 turbo engine producing 154 hp, or a pure electric vehicle with dual-engine all-wheel drive (the front electric motor develops a maximum of 165 hp, the rear one – 308 hp. The crossover’s direct competitors will be the Li Auto L8 and Aito M8.
