Jaguar Land Rover stopped car supply to the USA

Within a month, the manufacturer will not supply British assembly cars to one of their key markets, writes Automotive News. Such a period is necessary in order to assess the damage from 25 percent duties introduced by US President Donald Trump for the import of foreign cars. However, in local warehouses there is a supply of cars for about two months, so the Americans will not feel deficiency.

Jaguar Land Rover is one of the largest automakers in the UK, which sells about 400 thousand cars annually. Almost a quarter of these sales accounts for export to the United States. In April, while deliveries are on a pause, the JLR leadership will review its plans for this market.

The suspension in supplies will strengthen fears due to the impact of duties on the British auto industry, in which 200 thousand people are busy. According to the analytical center of the Institute for Studies of State Policy (IPPR), at least 25 thousand jobs may be under threat.

The USA is the second largest importer of cars from the UK after the European Union, which accounts for 20 percent of exports. The country’s authorities hope that they will be able to conclude a kind of trade agreement with Washington.

The influence of Trump’s duties on the auto industry not only of Great Britain, but all of Europe will be enormous, experts say. In addition to the JLR, the US supplies have already suspended Volkswagen, and the Stellantis auto giant even paused in factories in Canada and Mexico. It is interesting that this will affect the workers in the United States who work on auxiliary sites.
