The malfunction affected 235.7 thousand Kia Carnival minivans, as well as Genesis G80 and G90 sedans, GV70 and GV80 crossovers. The reason is a potential fuel leak at the junction of the high pressure pipe with the fuel rail. Leaking high pressure fuel poses a potential fire hazard.

The recall announced in the United States affects 141 thousand Carnival minivans of the 2022–2026 model years. The first signals from owners about the smell of gasoline and traces of fuel began to be received by dealers back in January 2025, but for a long time specialists were unable to find out the reason: checks showed no deviations.

Engineers later discovered a loose fuel line nut on two vehicles with obvious leaks. The reason for this was never determined, but from November 19, 2024, the tightening torque of the fuel pipe on the engines was increased. During the repair, dealers will inspect and tighten the connection, and if necessary, replace the tube.

In the case of Genesis, the recall will affect almost 95 thousand cars of four models – G80, GV80, GV70, G90. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that on these vehicles, fasteners at the fuel line/rail junction may become loose over time. This leads to leakage and, in the worst case, fire. A total of 129 complaints related to possible leakage have been registered so far.
