If a driver takes a traffic police inspector’s hint about a bribe as a guide to action, this may result in a criminal case for him. Automotive lawyer Sergei Smirnov told Gazeta.Ru about this.

“If a traffic police officer, by his actions and behavior, hints that he can turn a blind eye to an offense committed by the driver, there is one simple piece of advice: under no circumstances should you offer money to have the matter closed. Because, as a rule, this will end with an accusation of bribery,” the lawyer said.

According to him, if the driver tries to “resolve the issue” with the inspector or agrees to an informal agreement, the consequences can be much more serious than an administrative fine or deprivation of rights – even criminal liability with real imprisonment. The specialist urges you to categorically reject such proposals and not initiate them yourself. Any actions should be performed exclusively in accordance with the law.

If doubts arise about one’s own guilt or procedural errors are identified, the driver must respond to this and seek justice. If there are legitimate reasons (for example, violations of procedure), it is worth demanding that the proceedings be terminated.
