Traffic police officers sometimes make mistakes, misleading motorists, and conduct an inspection, while by all standards this is an inspection. Often inspectors abuse this to avoid filling out documents. Automotive lawyer Sergei Smirnov spoke about this in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.
“Inspections are very rarely carried out. Traffic police inspectors very often tell car owners that they are not conducting a search, but an inspection, and they ask them to open the car, show what is in the glove compartment, but this is already an inspection,” the lawyer noted.
According to him, for a legal inspection of a car, the inspector is required to draw up a protocol and invite two witnesses if it is not possible to film it. If there is a video recorder, the inspection is carried out while recording.
As a rule, traffic police inspectors often try to inspect a car without legal grounds. However, as soon as the driver expresses his readiness to provide the car for inspection, but demands that all the necessary procedural documents be drawn up, interest in the inspection usually immediately disappears.
