This sign is no longer on the list of mandatory items, but traffic regulations still require its use in specified cases. Automotive lawyer Lev Voropaev said this in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.
“We have excluded the warning triangle as a mandatory element from the main provisions for the admission of vehicles to operation in 2024, but other chapters of the traffic rules require the mandatory display of a warning triangle,” the lawyer said.
In particular, an emergency stop sign is used in case of traffic accidents and during a forced stop in the area of effect of a prohibitory sign (depending on the visibility and position of the car). It should also be placed on the rear of the vehicle being towed if its hazard lights are faulty.
For the absence of an emergency stop sign, for example in case of an accident, administrative liability is provided under Part 1 of Article 12.27 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation – a fine of 1 thousand rubles.
