Li Auto accuses Nissan of smear campaign

The public dispute between Li Auto and Nissan has attracted the attention of Chinese regulators. The media, citing the financial publication Caijing, claim that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) drew attention to this conflict and held negotiations with representatives of both companies.

The conflict flared up after the launch of the Nissan NX8, where during promotional events the model was compared with Li Auto cars, including the i6. Subsequent online publications have widely contrasted these models, often presenting the NX8 in a more favorable light.

In response to the allegations, Nissan, through the head of its electric vehicle division, Wang Qian, said it “adheres to industry rules and stands for fair competition,” without directly commenting on the allegations.

Li Auto CEO Li Xiang also publicly commented on the situation, criticizing what he called “malicious comparisons” from the Japanese rival. Although the original statement was later deleted.

The dispute underscores the growing pressure in the Chinese crossover market, especially in the 150-300 thousand yuan price range, where both local and joint ventures are increasingly targeting similar buyers.
