Moscow drivers were allowed to change winter tires

The average daily air temperature in the capital has reached values at which tire replacement is safe. At the same time, motorists should focus on the weather conditions of their region and postpone changing shoes if the threat of night frosts remains. The Ministry of Transport of Russia reports this in its Telegram channel.

“It is recommended to change tires when the average daily temperature remains at +5…+7 °C for 5-7 days. It is important to wait for stable warmth without night frosts,” the publication says.

The timing for replacing tires varies depending on the region: in the south – March, in the middle zone – April, in the Urals, Siberia and the Far East – May. Local authorities can set their own dates, which can be clarified at the traffic police department.

According to the Ministry of Transport, using winter tires in summer is associated with high risks: braking distance increases, grip and controllability decrease, tire wear accelerates and fuel consumption increases, which ultimately increases the likelihood of an accident.

Before installing used summer tires, it is necessary to check the remaining tread depth (acceptable minimum is 1.6 mm), the absence of microcracks, cuts and hernias, and also check the production date. When purchasing new tires, you should choose the sizes recommended by the car manufacturer: this is critical for the handling and safety of the car.

Earlier they told us what would happen to car prices in April.
