Motor named the six most affordable frame SUVs in Russia

The SUV, which traces its ancestry back to the UAZ-469 of the early 1970s, is available at a price starting from 1.72 million rubles; there are no new frame SUVs in Russia cheaper than it. The Hunter’s assets include a spar frame, a two-stage transfer case and continuous axles that provide high cross-country ability. There is a lot of painted metal in the interior: everything was intended for an army vehicle half a century ago.

Under the hood of the Hunter is a 2.7 petrol engine with a power of 150 hp, which is paired with a five-speed manual transmission of the Chinese brand BAIC. Front brakes are disc, rear drum. The advantages include a relatively affordable price, maintainability and simplicity of design. But in modern conditions, such a car should be chosen only as a utilitarian tool.

UAZ “Patriot”

“Patriot” is offered at a price of 1.93 million rubles. Under its hood is the same 2.7 ZMZ-409 gasoline engine with 150 hp, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The interior is more spacious and more modern than that of the Hunter, but this SUV does not yet have an automatic transmission: versions with a Chinese automatic transmission are undergoing factory tests. A diesel version is also expected.

Oting Paladin

The Paladin SUV from China is based on the Nissan Terra frame platform (which, in turn, comes from the Navara pickup) and is equipped with a Mitsubishi turbo engine. The Paladin has a solid rear axle, a double-wishbone front suspension and all-wheel drive with a connected front axle, and a reduction gear is also available. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter Mitsubishi turbo engine producing 218 hp, which is mated to a ZF automatic transmission.

The cabin combines analog gauges with a 12-inch central display and plenty of physical buttons. The advantages include a spacious luggage compartment, a 73-liter fuel tank, decent cross-country ability and a ground clearance of 215 mm. There are also several off-road driving modes. The interior materials of the Oting are far from luxurious, and the price cannot be called affordable: from 3.86 million rubles for the basic version.

The Tank 300 SUV fits within the budget of 4 million rubles only if discounts from the automaker are applied for applying for a loan and trading in your old car. Without these benefits, its price is 4.3-4.4 million rubles, depending on the type of all-wheel drive. Among the advantages of this car are its interesting design and decent quality of interior trim, as well as a powerful 2.0 engine (220 hp). It is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

Depending on the configuration, two all-wheel drive systems are offered: with a rigidly connected front axle, reduction gear and differential locks, or with a multi-plate clutch, automatic torque distribution and “lowering”.

Haval H5

A little over 4 million rubles are being asked for the basic version of the Haval H5. The main advantage of this model is the spacious interior and trunk. Technically, this car is close to the GWM Poer King Kong pickup truck, as it is built on the same platform. The wheels are driven by a 2.0 petrol turbo engine producing 200 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Already in the basic version, the equipment includes a 12-inch multimedia screen with smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front and rear seats, steering wheel, windshield and washer nozzles.

Suzuki Jimny

The Suzuki Jimny model is not officially supplied to Russia, but dealers on the market offer quite a lot of cars delivered as part of parallel imports. The price of a compact SUV is from 3 million rubles to 3.9 million rubles. The highest prices are stated for SUVs already imported to Russia and available at dealers.
