New generation steel will be used to produce Hongqi cars

New models of the premium brand will be the first cars to receive power structure elements made of innovative steel. This, as the automaker’s press service notes, is a unique new-generation hot-stamped steel with a tensile strength of 2.4 GPa (2400 MPa).

The innovative material is expected to set a new industry standard, taking vehicle occupant protection during serious accidents to a whole new level.

Steel 2.4 GPa is superior to the 2.0 GPa class used today in key parameters: the strength of key elements is increased by 15%, energy absorption is increased by 10%, and the weight of parts is reduced by 5-10%.

Meanwhile, the premiere of a new car will take place at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026, a TASS agency source reports.

It is still unknown who will help resume production, which has been idle for almost four years. But it is known that the production volume will be about a thousand vehicles annually.
