Nissan experienced an unmanned minivan Serena on the streets of Yokogama

Despite the active development of automotive technologies in the Land of the Rising Sun, local automakers do not have time for the development of autonomous driving systems that companies from China and the USA today introduce. At the same time, Nissan experts say that their unmanned technologies are much better integrated into vehicle systems. For five years, the company plans to completely abandon the participation of a person in the movement of robotic machines.

The Nissan autopilot uses 14 cameras, nine high -precision radars and six lidars located around the perimeter of the car. The company experiences its own unmanned system at the Serena minivan, which the day before was taken to the streets of Yokogama. During tests, a robotic car move in autonomous mode at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour, going around other road users, as well as passing pedestrians. At the same time, the drone route was set using a smartphone.

The employee of the mobility and artificial intelligence laboratory in Nissan Takeshi Kimur said that the company’s autopilot is still at the second level, which implies the presence of a tester in the passenger seat, which at any time can take control of the car. At the same time, specialists track all the parameters from the manufacturer’s headquarters.

This year, the American developer of Waymo unmanned systems is going to enter the Japanese market. The company has already entered into a partnership agreement with a large taxi company Nihon Kotsu, in which the Jaguar I-Pace electric crossovers in Tokyo will manage. Nissan plans to bring two dozen autonomous cars into the streets in the coming years, and by 2030 to completely abandon the participation of a person in the movement of drones.

At the end of February, it became known that the Cheri plans to equip the most budget cars autopilot. For example, unmanned technologies will be introduced into the miniature battery hatchback EQ1.
