According to the Autostat agency, in 2024, more than 181 thousand new passenger cars were imported into Russia under alternative import schemes, which is 20 percent less than the 2023 figure. Experts note that among imported cars, hybrid models predominate, accounting for 31 percent of the total volume, while electric vehicles account for only seven percent. The main supply routes were Kyrgyzstan, China and Belarus.

The leader in the volume of parallel imports was the Chinese brand Geely with a share of 13.7 percent, and two-thirds of imported cars were the Monjaro crossover. Second place was taken by another Chinese manufacturer, Lixiang (13.2 percent), which is not officially represented on the Russian market. Toyota closes the top three with 11.5 percent.

The top 10 brands by volume of alternative imports also included premium brands BMW (7.3 percent) and Mercedes-Benz (4.3 percent). The last place in the ranking was taken by Jetta, which shows the largest volume of imports through legal entities, as well as Zeekr, Kia and Hyundai.

In mid-January it became known that the demand for premium foreign cars from Europe and the USA in Russia continues to grow. According to Autostat-Info, sales of European, American and Japanese cars increased in 2024 compared to the previous year. The example of BMW is especially illustrative: despite a global drop in sales of 4 percent, in Russia sales of Bavarian cars increased by 30 percent.
