Renntech revives Mercedes SEC with Pagani Zonda engine

The American studio Renntech, known for its work with Mercedes-Benz, presented a new exclusive project. They took the iconic Mercedes-Benz SEC (C126) coupe of the 1980s as a basis and created on its basis the restomod SEC V12 Sledgehammer – the name translates as “Sledgehammer” and directly refers to the legendary AMG Hammer models. Carscoops reports this.

The project is based on the naturally aspirated M120 V12 engine, which was once installed on the Pagani Zonda hypercar and the Mercedes CLK GTR racing car. Renntech engineers did not limit themselves to simply installing the engine – they completely redesigned it, increasing the volume to 7.5 liters. As a result, the unit produces 660 hp. and an impressive 881 Nm of torque.

The appearance of Sledgehammer has become noticeably more aggressive than the original: the studio has developed a completely custom body kit. It included a new grille, a redesigned hood and extended front and rear fenders. The rear part was decorated with a new bumper with diffuser and spoiler. The car was installed on forged wheels and the brakes were strengthened so that they could cope with the increased power.

The project is strictly limited – only 12 copies will be released, intended for collectors around the world. The interior of each car will be made individually, taking into account the wishes of the customer. The official price has not yet been announced, but the client will receive the first finished copy no earlier than 2027.
