The Morning Midas vessel went from China to Mexico on May 26. About three thousand cars were loaded on board, including electric cars. On the eighth day of swimming, June 2, a fire broke out on board: after midnight, Greenwich began to bring smoke from one of the decks. All crew members managed to escape, and Rolker was left to burn out in the open sea, since there are still no effective ways of extinguishing burning lithium batteries.

The British company Zodiac Maritime, which owns Rolker, confirmed that the fire began in that part of the vessel where electric cars were loaded.

The crew of 22 people immediately began extinguishing a fire using on -board systems, but it was not possible to take control of the situation. As a result, they turned to the US coast guard and left Morning Midas on rescue boats. After that, they were picked up by a shopping ship nearby.

The Morning Midas-Asselor was built in 2006 and walks under the flag of Liberia. Its length is 182 meters, the width is 31 meters. What kind of cars went into ill -fated swimming is not reported.
