BI-95 is gasoline to which 8% bioethanol has been added, that is, ethyl alcohol from waste from advanced grain processing. The fuel retains the usual characteristics of gasoline, including octane number, but improves the environmental performance of the car.
Tests have shown that when using BI-95, emissions of fine particles are reduced by more than 70%, emissions of nitrogen oxides by 25%, and the volume of greenhouse gases by 60-70%.
As for the cost, a liter of BI-95 is offered to motorists at a price of 315 tenge (51.6 rubles), that is, slightly cheaper than the traditional AI-95.
However, there is an opinion that during the production of environmentally friendly fuel – bioethanol – much more harmful substances are released into the atmosphere than when burning conventional fossil fuels.
According to American scientists, when replacing regular gasoline with ethanol made from plant materials, emissions of gases that cause the greenhouse effect will double over the next 30 years, Science wrote.
Researchers have found that the growth in the number of plantations where various crops are grown for the production of bioethanol significantly exceeds the growth rate of green plants that consume carbon dioxide.
