Today, three colors dominate the Russian car market: gray, white and black. Over the past 30 years, their total share has grown from 42% to 84%. Gazeta.Ru was told about this in T-Zh as part of the T-Data analytical project.

“Over 30 years, the fleet has become almost monochrome. Among cars produced in 1995, the three most popular colors account for 42% of cars that still drive on Russian roads, and among cars produced in 2025 – already 84%. The top three at the moment are: gray with 33%, white with 28% and black with 23%,” the message says.

In 1995, the most popular colors were white, blue and red – each with a share of 16-19%. Today, blue accounts for only 4.8% of new cars. Gray remains in the top three for the longest time: it was popular in the 2000s, fell to second place in the 2010s, and in 2024 returned to first place. Among the brands in terms of the share of “colored” cars, Daewoo leads (53%), while SsangYong has the minimum figure – 15%.

A black car costs on average more than 3 million rubles – this is the most expensive color. Yellow, on the contrary, is the most affordable (1.9 million), and 40% of such cars are cheaper than 1 million rubles. In the premium segment, the opposite is true: a yellow Porsche is almost twice as expensive as a black one. Red and orange are more often chosen by women, yellow – equally by both sexes. Yellow cars get into accidents less often (9.3%), black cars more often (11.4%), but the reason is the type of car and driver, not the color.
