The average age of foreign cars produced in the Russian Federation has reached 5 years

As Izvestia calculated, the average age of a foreign car produced at Russian factories reaches 4.8 years. The calculation took into account passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, including those produced under new brands created specifically for the Russian market.

However, if you count not from the date of the last update of the model, but from the date of the premiere of the current generation of the car, then the average age may be even higher.

For example, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, one of the leaders in sales in Russia, debuted in 2019. Later, the crossover was modernized several times, receiving the Max and L indices. Now two versions of this model will be sold under the Tenet brand: a fresh one, 2025, and an earlier one, 2023, with an updated appearance in the style of the younger Tenet T4. And the compact T4 itself originates from the crossover presented at the Beijing Auto Show back in 2014.

Another illustrative example is the Haval M6 crossover, which is assembled in the Kaluga region. The car is built on the Haval H6 platform, which debuted back in 2011. The first generation of the M6 ​​was released in 2017, and in 2021 the model was seriously updated, changing the body and interior, but leaving a 150-horsepower turbo engine, a robotic gearbox and front-wheel drive. It is this version that is produced in Russia.

According to experts, this pattern of behavior is explained by the need to quickly restart factories following the departure of foreign brands from Russia.
