According to staff in the offices of several European commissioners, electric service vehicles are not capable of covering the approximately 440 km between Brussels and Strasbourg without stopping. Therefore, breaks to recharge have become part of the daily life of officials, Bild reports.
Staff at eight offices said the long commute, which takes about five hours, is becoming even more tiring. Politico clarifies that the use of battery models has been a “huge disappointment.”
“By 2027, the entire fleet of 128 company cars should be environmentally friendly. Currently, about 80% of cars are electric,” reports Bild.
Politicians have rejected a proposal to increase the range of electric cars by reducing speed. Train travel is prohibited for privacy reasons.
It is important that members of the European Commission, who have to travel between Brussels and Strasbourg, previously voted for the company fleet to switch to electric traction.
